The broaches are manufatured from special HSS steels, duly treated so that they can also
be used to machine hard metals.
Before starting with the broaching operation, a pre-broach hole must be drilled on the work piece. This pre-broach hole should be a little bit bigger than the shape to machine (from 0,1 to 0,3 mm bigger) and a little bit deeper in order to discharge the chips.
It is a good habit of using a good cutting oil during the broaching operation.

Broaching heads KERFOLG for polygonal holes and external surface profiles The Broaching Head is a high-speed tool for forming blind or through holes with regular polygonal shapes (square, hexagonal, TORX®, spline, etc.). Installing an adaptor on the same broaching head, polygonal surface profiles can be realized.
The broaching head may be applied on most rotary machine tools, both conventional (lathe, drill, milling machine) and numerically controlled ones. Thus it can work both vertically and horizontally.
The broach seat is set in the tool body at a specific inclination so that, when the machine rod starts to rotate, it transmits both, a rotary and oscillating motion to the broach. The combined action deriving from the rotation and feed function provided by the machine, allows the broach to smoothly penetrate the pre-drilled work-piece, in order to form the shape required.

Inserts for slots KERFOLG The inserts for slots are made in sintered alloy, that after a thermal treatment it reaches a hardness of 70-71 HRC. This material gives the inserts a high toughness which allows them to withstand high pressure. The inserts also undergo a TIN surface coating treatment. The inserts are sharp and tapered on all their sides. This process eliminates flank contact that prevents the cutting perpendicular of all reference axis parts during slotting. Available on request inserts P6 tolerance D10 -D11 or with chamfer holes of 0.2x45° (H7-SM e P6-SM) and the walls of the quarry broached, this leaving the holes free of burrs. This type of bevel is suitable only on the premises for UNI keys.

Restrictor holder tools KERFOLG The tools are made of steel for hardened tools. The part where the insert is housed is tempered at 58/60 HRC, as to make it very resistant to compression and to ensure the tools a long life. They are provided with 4 mm holes, for the forced supply of coolant, that in addition allows the lubrication and the cooling of the insert to extract for the blind hole the chip produced from the processing of slotting. The tools are available in two grip sizes, Ø 32 mm standard e Ø 25 mm on request.
